The Kyiv Academic Municipal Brass Band is the capital's leading brass ensemble, founded in 1992 on the initiative of Viktor Okhrimenko. In 2006, the orchestra was awarded the title of ‘academic’.
The ensemble's repertoire includes classical, folk and contemporary music, arrangements of overtures by Verdi, Lysenko, Stankovich and Tchaikovsky, as well as marches, dances, jazz and pop compositions.
The orchestra skilfully combines Ukrainian musical tradition with contemporary genres such as funk, jazz and rock, creating vibrant concert programmes. The ensemble has collaborated with Dmytro Hnatyuk, Anatoliy Solovyanenko, Raisa Kyrychenko and many other well-known performers.
The orchestra has toured the Netherlands and Germany.Since 2021, the orchestra has been led by Hennadiy Andriushchenko (general director, Honoured Artist of Ukraine) and Mykola Lysenko Jr. (chief conductor, Honoured Worker of Culture).
Under the Kyiv Orchestra brand, the ensemble participates in well-known cultural events — the Kraina Mriy ethno-festival, the Champagne Eyes concert dedicated to the 55th anniversary of Kuzma Skryabin, the Kyiv City Workshop festival — and also presents its own programmes, including Musical Bonfire — Ukrainian Beat.
